When it comes to furnishing a home office, you need some kind of a storage solution for papers. The first idea that likely springs to mind is a filing cabinet. But is a filing cabinet necessarily the best option? Maybe, maybe not—it depends on your needs. But it could be that an even better choice is to get a set of plastic containers for filing. Why? Check out some of the benefits.

1. If you need to move your files, you can.

What if you have a bunch of files that you want to move out of your home office to a storage location? If they are all in a filing cabinet, you would have to move them individually, and perhaps find a new storage container for them—or push the entire filing cabinet to a new location (and possibly get a new one for your home office). Filing cabinets are quite heavy and unwieldy, so this is a real pain (if not out of the question).

Now imagine you have a set of plastic storage boxes for filing instead. If you want to move a batch of files, just pick up the lightweight box and move it. That is all there is to it. If you need to keep those files in that box, you can just purchase a new plastic bin for paper to put in your home office. It sure is a lot less expensive than buying a new filing cabinet!

2. You can decorate them.

Another reason to consider plastic containers instead of a filing cabinet is that you have a huge range of options for customization. There are so many ways you can decorate plastic bins for your office. You can paint them, decorate them with washi tape, scrapbooking paper or contact paper, or jazz them up in some other fashion. This is an excellent way to add more personality to your home office, making it an environment where you feel truly comfortable and at ease.

This is not to say that you cannot decorate a filing cabinet, but you will probably be up against more challenges. Plus, if you totally screw up with a plastic container, you can just get a new one and try again; it is not a big expense. The same cannot be said for a filing cabinet, which is a much larger expense.

You now know a couple of great reasons to consider plastic bins for your office files instead of a traditional filing cabinet. Not only are plastic bins inexpensive, but they offer you more convenience, and they are fun to personalize.
