Have you ever been wrestling with a stuck drawer and though to yourself, “Hey, it would sure be a whole lot easier if I just replaced these with some clear plastic storage bins?” In Part 1 of this series, I went over several great reasons to consider doing just that:

1. Plastic bins have more give.
2. You can change the size of your drawers and customize your entire layout.
3. You can see inside plastic bins (great for crafting).

Now I would like to share several more reasons why you might want to replace your drawers with clear plastic organizing bins.

4. You can use a tip-out system for easy access.

In Part 1, I mentioned using clear plastic bins for craft rooms, because you can see their contents at a glance without pulling them out. Now I would like to suggest a similar idea, also suitable for your craft room or garage.

Consider going with a tip out bin system. While a lot of people think about tip out bins for the office, tip out bins for the home can be very helpful. Again, imagine you are a crafter or a DIYer and you have a lot of small odds and ends that you need to grab for your projects. With tip out bins, you do not have to go pulling out drawers or taking lids off bins and rummaging around. You just walk up to your bins and reach inside and get what you need. How easy is that?

5. You can pick them up and carry them around.

Another reason why plastic totes are more convenient than drawers is the fact that they are portable. If you have a bunch of stuff inside a drawer, and you need to move it to another room, do you pull out the drawer and carry it? Probably not—a lot of drawers cannot be removed, or are really hard to remove. Plus they are heavy, and if you happen to drop them, they may very well break.

But plastic bins are lightweight and can easily be removed or replaced as needed. So if you want to, you can grab a bin and take it with you across the room or to another room and then put it back when you are done—again very helpful for crafting and hardware projects.

6. It’s a fun project.

Finally, here is one more reason to replace a set of drawers with plastic bins: because you can! That’s right—it is a delightfully fun DIY project, allowing you to bring your creativity to the fore to come up with a brilliant organizing solution. And once you are done, you can show it off online.

So now you know why you should think about replacing that annoying set of drawers with a set of plastic containers. Once you have a flexible organizing solution in place customized exactly to your needs, you will be glad you took the time and effort to do it!
