Most of the bins that we sell on our site are made of plastic, but we do offer some other products as well, one of which is mesh wire bins. Plastic storage containers are ideal for most situations, but there may be times when mesh wire bins make more sense. What are the situations where you should think about mesh wire instead of plastic containers?

1. When visibility is important.

Need to be able to see inside your storage containers? Clear plastic storage bins do offer some level of transparency, allowing you to view contents through the side, but not very clearly. With a mesh wire bin, you are able to see what is inside the container with much greater ease. So if you want to be able to see at a glance what is in your bins, mesh wire may sometimes be a superior option.

2. When you want to prevent dust and dirt from collecting.

One of the downsides of solid bin construction is that dust, dirt and other debris can easily collect inside (unless the bin is sealed). This can be annoying for obvious reasons. It makes it easier for dust to collect on the bin contents, and you may occasionally have to take everything out and wash the inside of the bin itself.

Wire mesh storage baskets do not have this issue to nearly the same degree. The dust, dirt and debris tend to fall right through the mesh. This means they do not accumulate inside, which helps to keep the bin contents clean, and reduces the amount of upkeep needed on the bins themselves.

3. Anytime you are worried about plastic bins deforming.

Plastic storage containers are usually pretty sturdy, but plastic is a bendable material, and that means that sometimes it can deform or crack. This is common when storing especially heavy contents, or when the containers may be left in an environment where they might for example be exposed to high heat or dramatic swings in temperature.

You will not have this issue with wire mesh bins. They will retain their shape, which makes them ideal for heavier items, and they also will hold up fine in hot and cold temperatures.

4. Any long-term storage situation.

If you have a warehouse where you are going to be storing inventory for months or years on end, mesh wire bins may be a better solution than plastic for all of the reasons cited above. You will not be through often to clear away dust or move the items around, so bins which do not collect grime are a must. It is also likely that the warehouse is not carefully temperature-controlled, and once more, this makes mesh a superior choice.

Plastic bins are a great option for most situations, but you now have some examples of scenarios where mesh wire bins may offer you greater value. Think carefully about your storage needs, and you will be able to choose the right types of bins for your inventory.
