Want to live in a tiny house, but wondering whether it is the right choice for you? In Part 1 of our set of articles on tiny house pros and cons, we went over some of the drawbacks of tiny house living. Now let’s talk about some exciting tiny house living benefits you can look forward to.

Pros of Living in a Tiny House

• Your house may be portable. Why live in a tiny house? One good reason is that you no longer need to leave home every time you have to relocate. Many tiny houses can be moved from site to site. That means no more packing or unpacking, and no more losing that sense of “place” that is truly yours.

• A tiny house can be cost-effective to build or buy. Note that I said “can.” Some tiny houses are exorbitantly overpriced (i.e. $80,000 and up), but many can be built or purchased for $30,000 or less. If you do not want to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a mortgage, a tiny house is a good alternative. You just need to shop around and make smart decisions about how you spend your money.

• You have less square footage to organize and clean. While you do need to clean more frequently in a tiny house, you will have a much smaller area to dust, vacuum, and so forth. Tiny house organizing requires a lot of clever planning, but you have less to do overall in this regard as well.

• You resist the urge to accumulate items you do not need. When you have a huge house, it is easy to accumulate clutter and forget about it. This is a wasteful practice. With a tiny house, you learn to be more selective about your acquisitions.

• Your home is more eco-friendly. Your ecological footprint living in a tiny house is much smaller than it would be in a large home. If you care about protecting the environment and conserving space, tiny living is definitely the way to go.

• Everything is in reach. When you live in just a few hundred square feet of space, all of your possessions are usually easy to grab when you need them. You will probably misplace items less frequently.

• You can really get into personalizing your space. For many people, one of the greatest appeals of tiny house living is the chance to really make a space special. Since the job is small (compared to a big house), you can take the time and money to really express your personality through every aspect of your tiny house. Each feature of the home can be built around your needs.

Now you know about some tiny house benefits which make downsizing a worthwhile decision! If you decide that you do want to move into a tiny house of your own, be sure to read through more articles in our archives for tips for organizing a small space.
