Organize Your Shower or Tub

One of the toughest rooms in the house to keep organized and clutter-free is the bathroom. There are so many different chores involved with organizing your bathroom. One task which is often overlooked though is how to organize your bathroom shower or tub. If your tub or shower is already pretty much clutter-free and spotless, you may not need to worry about it. But for a lot of us, it is easy to start accumulating stuff and making a mess. Here are some tips to organize your shower.

• Start by getting rid of anything that you have in your shower but never use and never will. Throw away these unwanted products or offer them to friends or family members who may want them and make good use of them. If you have any other items you use occasionally and do not want to get rid of, find a new home for them in one of your cabinets.

• Purchase plastic organization bins, and put the items you use often inside. This could include your shampoo, your conditioner, your soap, your shaving cream, and so on. Plastic is the best material for this kind of bin, because you can bring it in and out of the shower if you want. Plastic will not mold or rot. You can even continue to store the bin inside your shower or tub if you want, or you can take it out afterward and store it somewhere else (this is a great tip if you live in a college dorm and your bathroom is down the hall).

• Decide here and now that you are not going to use your shower or tub as a storage space for other bathroom supplies! If you need to, organize your bathroom cabinets and get rid of other things you do not need to create more space. The linen closet is a great place to start. You may very well have a lot more linens and towels than you need right now.

• Wipe down your shower now that it is finally clutter-free; don’t put it off! If you wait, you may decide not to bother. It is much easier to tackle a chore like this when you are already committed. Just think how happy you will be when your shower is shiny, clean, and soap-scum free!

It is a good idea going forward to come up with a regular schedule for cleaning your shower or tub. You might decide to do it once a month from now on. You also may want to pick a day out of every week to declutter your bathroom. That way you will not gradually undo all your hard work organizing. A well-organized shower or tub is a more pleasant place to get clean, and a safer one too. Clutter in your shower can easily fall to the floor, posing a tripping hazard. When all your shower supplies are safely corralled in a clear plastic bin, you will not need to worry about this anymore.
