The very first step in organizing your garage is probably to clean it out. Garages are rooms where people tend to accumulate things they don’t really need and lose the items which they do need. Going through your garage you’ll probably find plenty of items which can be donated at the thrift store or sold at a garage sale. Once you’ve passed on the items which were causing unnecessary clutter, you can go about consolidating the things you really do want and need.

Next you’ll want to look through your items and figure out which ones need special storage equipment (racks for bicycles for example, and wall brackets for rakes, brooms and mops). Most of your items can probably go on shelves. Since the middle of your garage probably has vehicles or workspace, you will want to keep your things around the edges, utilizing vertical space with stacking shelves and plastic storage boxes. You’ll need to purchase many shapes and sizes for all the items in your garage, always remembering to purchase bins which are stackable.
