Fall has begun, and that means you have a lot of easy themes ready for you to use when you dress up your retail windows! The first big holiday of the fall is of course Halloween. How can you jazz up your Halloween display windows and cultivate the right atmosphere of spooky fun to draw in your customers?

• The best Halloween retail display ideas will fail if you don’t get the basics right. Start by making sure you’ve got the basics down. Keep your window displays at eye level, and remember to make sure that the displays are at eye level outside.

• Try to resist the urge to clutter. There are so many cute Halloween decorations out there: pumpkins and spiders and hay bales and bats. Keep it simple, though. Come up with a few items that will really stand out. Don’t forget to leave room for your actual products. If you do not sell Halloween décor, you need some space to showcase what you actually do sell in your Halloween retail window displays.

• Choose natural, warm materials like wood for your display. Retail display baskets are a fabulous choice because they are versatile and have just the right rustic, natural look and feel you need. They will also transfer right into your Thanksgiving displays when you change things up in about a month. You can even start working some Thanksgiving elements into your displays early.

• Get the lighting right. Lighting your retail display effectively is not just about visibility. It is also about organizing your space. The right directional lighting can draw emphasis to different areas of your Halloween window displays, and can help to reduce the appearance of clutter.

• If you can, try to connect the display to the products you sell in a clever way. For example, if you run a store that sells broomsticks, mops, or anything along those lines, you can build a display around the idea of witches flying broomsticks—or mops! Use your imagination and don’t be afraid to be quirky. A witch riding a mop may actually stand out more and be more memorable than a witch riding a broomstick.

• Use your store’s mannequins. You can dress up a retail mannequin display for Halloween quickly and easily. Just put a costume on it! If you are in a rush or don’t have access to anything, just cut a couple of holes in a big white sheet and drape it over, and you have a ghost.

There are many easy, inexpensive, fun and crafty ways to create a beautiful, fun, and memorable Halloween retail display windows. You can utilize the same ideas, tips and tricks throughout your store. This will draw buyers into the shop and entice them to walk around and look at all your fun retail displays. Along the way they will see plenty of products to entice them too—and you will make some awesome fall sales!
