Are you in the retail industry? If so, you know that this is a time of year when people shop. When you think about spring, one of the first things you think about at home is probably spring cleaning. This is a great time of year to clean out the backstock in your store as well. A lot of your customers have also started spring cleaning at home—and out with the old means in with the new!

Getting ready for a spring clearance sale is no easy task, though. You have a lot to get set up around the shop. Here are some tips to help you get everything in order.

• Make sure the pathways through your store are optimized. If you have any areas where traffic can get lost or jammed, now is the time to make sure you sort that out. Create pathways through your shop that lead customers to sales. Also take steps to maximize visibility throughout the store. You don’t want people to miss savings opportunities because they are blocked from view by high shelving.

• Get your signage. Spring clearance sales are not going to be too successful if nobody can find them. That means you need to look into signage ideas for retail. You will need retail display sign holders for indoors and outdoors. Come up with a fun spring motif and maybe a catchy theme name for your sale. If you can brand it consistently and promote it the same way, you will build awareness and send buyers your way. Note that this is also a great time to think about hiring sign spinners. Spring is a time when a lot of people make impulse buys, and sign spinners are particularly suited to bringing in those types of customers.

• Create whimsical and original spring retail window designs. Use bright, festive colors for spring. Pastel greens, blues, pinks, yellows, and oranges can work nicely. Stick with bolder shades for summer. Flowers, cute animals, and props that hint at spring activities all send the right message. Depending on the business you are in and the demographics you appeal to, you can also work in holiday-themed messages. Easter gives you plenty of ideas which are easy and fun to work with and which have a widespread appeal.

• Try to integrate some of the ideas from your spring retail window displays into other areas of your shop. If you advertise the clearance sale in the window and then use the same props and colors in areas of your store where you have your clearance items stocked, you will lead buyers straight to the sale items. The pathways through your store need to have a strong visual appeal.

Hopefully these inventory clearance sale ideas for spring have helped you get started on the right track. But this is just the start! I will share more ideas, tips and tricks with you in my next article, Get Ready for Spring Clearance Sales, Part 2.
