Should you get organized now, or wait until later? How do you know when it is the right time to really dive into your home organization projects? Organizing your entire home is no easy feat; naturally you do not want to set aside lots of time to do it until you really have to. But it could be that this is exactly the right time to organize. In Part 1, I shared these three signs with you:

1. It takes you twice as long to get ready in the morning than it should.
2. You keep buying duplicates of items unintentionally.
3. Everyday tasks take more effort than they should.

Here are four more.
4. Important items are getting misplaced.

The other month, I was preparing to send some taxes in, and forgot my login. Usually I keep it within easy reach at the top of a pile of papers on my desk. Only this time, I had to dig for ten whole minutes before I found it, and at one point I panicked because I thought I’d thrown it away on mistake.

Thankfully, I hadn’t. But this to me was a sign that I needed to organize paper clutter straight away. If you are constantly misplacing important items like this, you too need to get organized as soon as you can.

5. Every time someone gives you a gift, your first thought is, “Where am I going to put this?”

When someone gives you a present, they want you to be happy and excited. They certainly do not want you to feel anxious or distraught. But when your house is cluttered and disorganized, that is probably exactly what you feel whenever someone bestows a gift on you. After all, you now have yet another item to add to your mess.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could feel pleased and grateful again when someone gives you a present, instead of panicked about where to put it? Once you get organized, you will have no problem finding a home for new possessions.

6. Your mind feels cluttered.

Do you feel relaxed and centered when you are at home? Or do you feel confused, distracted, and overwhelmed? If you generally feel the latter and not the former, it could be that how you feel is a reflection of the mess around you. This is a sure sign that you need to organize right away.

7. You feel anxious about inviting friends or family over to visit.

I had a friend when I was younger who used to refuse to let visitors anywhere near her bedroom half the time. The rest of the time, she was apologizing for it. Actually, from my perspective, it wasn’t that bad. But she was deeply ashamed of her perceived clutter, which means it was too disorganized for her. If this is how you feel when guests come over, you should probably think about organizing soon.

Organizing is a big chore, and it takes a lot of energy and time. But the payoff is well worth it. So don’t put off your organizing tasks any longer. The time for change is now!
