7 Signs You Need to Get Organized, Part 1

“My house is cluttered. Help!” Is that the sort of thought that goes through your mind when you look around at the messes piling up in your bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and living room? Or do you think to yourself, “Well, maybe it could be worse. Is it really that bad? Surely I can put this […]

“My house is cluttered. Help!” Is that the sort of thought that goes through your mind when you look around at the messes piling up in your bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and living room? Or do you think to yourself, “Well, maybe it could be worse. Is it really that bad? Surely I can put this off a little longer …”

Sometimes it can be hard to figure out when it is time to organize. While it would be easy to chalk that up to laziness, our busy, fast-paced lives often do not leave a lot of time for decluttering, cleaning, and organizing. We do have other priorities to juggle, so it is reasonable to ask yourself if it really is the right time to organize.

If you need help figuring it out, read on to discover 7 common signs that you need to get organized ASAP.

1. It takes you twice as long to get ready in the morning than it should.

How long do you stand in front of the closet each day trying to find something to wear? Some people struggle to figure out what to wear because they have very few clothes. But others struggle because they have too many, and those clothes are totally disorganized. The result is that they cannot see everything at a glance or find what they need. This makes it really hard to coordinate outfits.

If you used to get ready for the day in 10 minutes and it is now taking you 20, it is probably time to organize your closet. There are many different methods you can use to do this. It is a time-consuming job, but once it is complete, it will save you time every day. That means more time to sleep in each morning.

2. You keep buying duplicates of items unintentionally.

Does this sound familiar? You search all around your kitchen for a particular utensil, and cannot find it. You figure maybe you lost it or gave it away, so you go buy a new one. Then, a week later, you find the one you thought was gone. Now you have even more clutter, and you wasted money.

If this sort of thing happens to you on a regular basis, it is definitely time to think about getting organized. You shouldn’t have to guess about whether you even have an item or not. Everything should have a place, and be in it.

3. Everyday tasks take more effort than they should.

If you expend a lot more energy than seems necessary cooking, getting ready for the day, doing your bills, and so forth, maybe it is because you are. If your tasks require extra effort, it could be because you are not organized. Getting organized isn’t just about improving appearances; it is also about improving efficiency in the home.
