We are just getting into the most important time of the year for retail stores. Black Friday is getting bigger every year, and this year, your competitors are doing more than ever to make their stores and displays stand out. How can you boost holiday sales in your own brick-and-mortar store? There is a lot you can do on the promotional end, online and offline, but a big part of your success comes down to your holiday retail displays and the layout of your sales floor. Here are a few suggestions for increasing your Black Friday sales this year:

1. Start by brainstorming some amazing retail holiday window display ideas. For a lot of customers, shopping starts before they ever set foot inside your store. Make sure you bring some holiday and seasonal décor into play and come up with an eye-catching, creative design. Post signs advertising your most exciting holiday promotions right in your window, and entice customers to come inside.

2. Set up holiday retail displays throughout your store. You can decorate any retail display cases to make them stand out. Even something as simple as pasting paper cut-outs of snowflakes to the inside of glass display cases can bring a nice seasonal theme into the mix and attract attention to the cases—without detracting from what is inside.

3. Create logical pathways throughout your store leading to items you have marked down for Black Friday or other holiday sales. You want to create intuitive pathways which customers find themselves taking almost without thinking about it. Don’t just post signs promoting holiday sales; make those signs really stand out with bright colors and holiday decorations. Hang tinsels or ornaments over holiday promotion signs and discount areas in your store so that they attract curiosity and are visible throughout your store.

4. Don’t overdo it. While it is a great idea to go over-the-top and really deck out your retail store in style for the holidays, you don’t want to go too far with your holiday retail displays. Why? Think back over the years and you are sure to remember stores you walked into during the holidays where you felt totally lost and overwhelmed amid all the dazzling lighting and tinsel. You don’t want to put up so much décor that you actually decrease store visibility or make people feel dazed when they enter your store.

Have fun when you set up your holiday décor and create your Black Friday sales signs. You want to get customers excited about exploring your shop and hunting for bargains. The best way to excite customers is to get excited yourself! It is a lot of work setting all of this up for just a few short months, but it can also be a great deal of fun for your entire retail team. Get input from everybody and combine the best ideas.
