Your living room is one of the central areas in your household, and one of the rooms that it is most important to keep clean, clutter-free, and organized. This is one of the rooms that you spend time with your family each day, and it also is probably where you entertain your guests. A clutter-free living room makes a positive impression for your guests, and makes a comfortable living space for you and your loved ones. Here are 3 easy tasks to declutter and organize your living room.

1. Get your cords out of the way.

How many cords do you have in your living room running to consoles, speakers, and screens? Dozens? It is easy for cords to add up. Every time you add a new electronic gadget to your home entertainment center, unless it is wireless, you add one or more cords. Cords do not look particularly attractive in your living room; they tend to tangle up, which immediately can make an otherwise organized room look like a mess. Use cable ties or a cable zipper to contain your cords together and get them out of everyone’s way. You will be amazed at the difference this makes. The best part is that it only takes literally a few minutes, and then it is done!

2. Come up with an organizational system for your multimedia.

Do you have hundreds of DVDs and video games strewn around your living room? Come up with a system that will help you to get your multimedia under control and out of the way. You might for example try a system of plastic organizing boxes, and label them according to media type and genre and then alphabetize them. This will make it easy to find whatever you want to watch, listen to, or play at a glance.

3. Create a play area for your children.

If you have kids who like to hang out in the living room and play, their toys can quickly make your living room look like a clutter zone, no matter how hard you try to do your part to keep it clean. One of the best ways you can control this clutter is to section off a part of your living room that will serve as a play zone from now on. Choose a corner and come up with an effective but child-friendly barrier to outline the zone, like a low bookshelf or a game table. Encourage your child to play in that area, and provide some clear plastic bins for toy storage. This should at least keep the mess contained so that the rest of the living room stays neat and clean.

Hopefully these living room organization ideas will help you to tidy up and make a great impression with your living space. All three of these tasks are easily approachable and only require limited supplies, so you should be able to accomplish them quickly. You will love the results!
