In our first segment on ways to store holiday decorations, we talked about some of the best ways to store Christmas tree ornaments and outdoor lights. We also talked about a simple trick for keeping your bows in good condition, and what you should do about storing holiday recipes. We have even more great Christmas decoration storage ideas for you. Here are some more great holiday décor storage tips:

• Keep your wrapping paper scraps. Do you end up with a lot of leftover pieces of wrapping paper you are pretty sure would be good for small packages, but they don’t stay on the rolls anymore? You may feel an urge to throw them away, but all you need is a medium plastic container with enough room to store them all. Find a heavy object like an old book to put on top of them inside the bin, and this will keep them flat so they don’t curl up or get crinkled. Next year, you will be glad you did, when you suddenly realize you need just a small scrap of paper to wrap a little gift.

• Did you really like your decorating scheme this year? Wish you could remember where to put everything for the same great effect next year? One awesome tip is to label everything when you put it away. Affix a tag that tells you where to put each item, and next year will be a breeze. So for example, if a particular garland looked incredible in the entryway, just attach a tag that says, “entryway.” If a small tree looked nice in the living room corner, label it “living room corner.” This not only helps you, but makes it easy for others to help you!

• Color code your holiday décor storage. Do you have a hard time finding your Christmas decorations amid your Easter and Halloween decorations? If you are in the habit of using clear plastic boxes and cardboard boxes for all your holiday décor and then storing them in the same area of your house, consider a simple alternative: color coded plastic containers. You can choose helpful colors to remind you of which bins are for which holidays. Christmas bins can be red or green, Halloween bins can be orange, Easter bins can be a bright springtime color like pink or light green, and so on. That way you can walk into your storage area and at a glance know which boxes contain which decorations!

All of these ideas for organizing your holiday decorations are easy and cheap. Purchasing a few color coded plastic bins will cost you next to nothing, and will make your life so much easier, not only next Christmas, but year-round. Labeling your décor to remind yourself of where everything belongs when it’s time to start decorating again will not only help you, but anyone you have enlisted to decorate with you. They will know instantly where you want everything! Make it easy for others to help you, and you will get set up for Christmas next year in no time.
