If you are in charge of maintaining your retail store window displays, you know how much of a challenge it can be to come up with new ideas throughout the year. Decorating a retail store isn’t just about beautification—it is also about sales. The best summer window displays won’t just entice the eye, they will also drive customer traffic inside and get buyers into the mindset to spend money.

Need some help coming up with summer store display ideas? Here are some summer window display themes to consider:

• Bright colors. To some degree, spring and summer window displays are going to be somewhat similar. Both will usually have an emphasis on spending time outdoors in warm weather and enjoying the fun and beauty of nature. Whereas spring windows often use pastels, summer windows usually work best with bright, bold, vivid hues. Go with bright pinks, oranges, greens, purples, blues, and yellows. A combination of warm and cool tones works best with some sharp contrasts.

• Out by the pool. You can’t go wrong with a pool or beach theme, especially if you sell relevant merchandise. Use a water- or beach-related backdrop, and bring in some fun props like surfboards and pool tubes. Round life preservers are particularly great for display since you can paint them with bright colors and patterns. Mannequins can wear the preservers, or you can hang them. Get a particularly large one, and a mannequin can sit inside like it’s a swing. Add a splash of fun to your windows!

• 4th of July. If your store is located in the US, the 4th of July always makes for an easy classic theme. Go with lots of flags and red, white, and blue—but also think beyond mere colors. The 4th of July is a holiday for barbecues and lemonade, flying kites, and spending time with friends and family. Recreate different aspects of this theme in your windows and you will evoke the spirit of good times. The 4th of July also makes a great theme because it works so well with so many different product niches. Whether you are selling outdoor cooking appliances, lawn and garden supplies, or clothing, you can promote your products effectively.

• Garden and lawn. While you are at it, anything involving the backyard or garden can offer you excellent thematic ideas for summer retail display windows. Incorporate props like flowers, watering cans, pinwheels, butterflies, and picnic blankets to capture a sense of backyard relaxation and fun.

Now you have a few great ideas for your summer retail display windows. All of these themes are highly evocative and get buyers into the frame of mind to relax and enjoy the carefree days of the season. That carefree attitude is exactly the mindset that gets people ready to open up their wallets and spend money.
