Getting ready for springtime at your retail outlet? If you are in charge of merchandising and it is your job to set up the window, you have a very important task. You need to create a display which is creative enough to grab attention and create congestion in front of the store. That is where spring retail sales start.

Trying to come up with spring retail display ideas can be challenging. Every year you need to come up with something new! Plus you may be competing with some very talented window designers nearby. Here are a few ideas for spring retail window displays to welcome in the season—and the sales!

Use Pastel Colors

These can include cool shades like blue and green as well as warm yellows, pinks, and oranges. Lavender can also look great. Bolder hues usually shout “summer,” so keep it soft and subtle. Balance the colors against each other so that you are using complementary hues.

You may find that a rainbow of colors works best, or you might want to just stick with two or three hues for a simple, eye-catching effect. If you do decide to use a large number of colors, you probably should come up with a way to organize the colors (like in a rainbow spectrum), or you should stick with subdued shades which won’t clash or seem too “noisy.” You don’t want your display to be so distracting that people don’t look at your products on their retail window display units.

Focus on Nature

This is the time of year when the grass starts turning green and trees and shrubs blossom. Incorporating flowers (real or fabric) into displays is a common spring tactic, but it can work beautifully. Retail window displays for spring should be original, but classic ideas can be incorporated in innovative ways. Animals are also great to include—think about hanging paper butterflies or setting up some plush chicks or bunnies.

Still stuck? Consider the following idea. You may think grass would be hard to work into a retail display, but one clever store came up with the idea of simply standing a couple of mannequins in a window with long strips of green paper that towered over their heads. This display was instantly eye-catching, shouted “springtime,” and had a great minimalist appeal. If you put your creative hat on, you can probably come up with other cool ideas similar to this one.

Go with an Easter Theme If Appropriate

This might not work for every business, but it could be perfect if you are serving the right demographic. Incorporate secular representations of Easter (bunnies, decorated eggs, etc.) if you are in doubt. If you run a Christian-themed shop (a bookstore for example), you can work in religious themes.

These are just a few great ideas for incorporating spring retail trends 2016 into your window displays. Make sure to read Spring Retail Display Ideas, Part 2 for even more ideas!
