So what should you use to organize self storage? If you don’t want to spend any money at all, there is always the cardboard box solution. But cardboard boxes have some limitations. They are not particularly sturdy, they can fall apart while you are carrying them, and they can also be easily crushed. Since they are opaque, seeing inside of them is a challenge. So if you come back to your storage unit to retrieve something, you are going to have a really tough time finding it.

Consider instead replacing some of those cardboard boxes with clear plastic bins. Small clear plastic bins for storage are very popular for keeping small items safe and contained. You can stack these up and store them inside of larger clear plastic bins for easy transport. Large bins have the advantage of being sturdier than large cardboard boxes, which can easily fall apart if the contents are heavy (which they commonly are).
