Do you operate a retail store? Do you struggle to keep clutter from obstructing the pathways through your store? When customers shop with you, they need to not only be able to get effectively from point A to B, but they also need to be able to shop comfortably. A cluttered, packed-in retail space makes shoppers feel hemmed in and claustrophobic. It is also harder to see your merchandise if your store is jam-packed. With an open, roomy store on the other hand, shoppers can see more, walk more easily from one shelf to another, and generally buy more. Here are some products which can help you to consolidate space and bring some more openness to your retail store:

Wall mounted retail fixtures and shelves. One of the best ways to get things off the floor is to mount them on the walls. There are a number of different ways you can do this. You can use slatwall boards or you can place gridwall displays against your walls. These displays allow you to place hooks pretty much anywhere you want. You can also mount shelves on your walls directly. Wall mounts make items clearly visible, get them out of the customer’s way, and work great for displaying items with unusual sizes and shapes that are hard to display on the sales floor.

Slatwall merchandiser displays, grid cubbies, rotating displays, and other space saving items for your floor. These retail display racks and shelves all provide you with a tremendous amount of space for placing your items—without taking up all that much of your floor space. This is because they allow you to place items on all sides. From every angle, customers approaching them can see what they have to offer, which just increases their utility.

• Make the space seem larger. This is a cheat, since it doesn’t actually save you space, but it can help your customers feel like there is more space in your shop. Mirrors placed against walls can help create an optical illusion of more space—while also providing a convenience to buyers. You can also cut window spaces in the walls if you have more than one room in your retail store. This can provide a feeling of openness.

• Experiment with lighting. This suggestion goes along with the tip above. Cleverly lighting your space can draw attention away from clutter and help to guide shoppers through a store to the merchandise you are promoting. This is a great way to make shoppers feel more comfortable in your environment.

Even if you are stuck operating a very small retail store, there are always things you can do to either increase the space on your floor, or at least create the illusion for customers that they are in a more spacious shop. Many of these plans simply involve buying the right retail display cases. The more space you have (or appear to have), the more comfortable shoppers will be in your store, and the longer they will stay.
