In this blog we have devoted a number of articles to organizing your home, but one item of furniture in the home we have neglected a bit is the dressing table. Not everybody has a dressing table, and those that do know of course that it is not a table but a set of drawers. To organize your dresser, you are going to want to get the top cleaned off and get the contents of each of your drawers sorted out. Here are a few simple steps you can take to get your dressing table in order right now!
1. Clear everything off the top.
Start by clearing off the top of your dressing table entirely. That way you can wipe down the surface and start with a clean slate. While it is not as important to keep open space on your dressing table as it is on your desk (since you do not work at your dresser), it is still a great idea to keep about 70-80% of the space open. Why? It contributes to a tidy look, and will make your dressing table a comfortable spot to spend time each day.
2. Clear out your drawers.
Put everything on the floor, and now wipe down the interior of each of your drawers. Once again, you will want to start with a clean slate before you put everything back inside. Now you can move onto the next step.
3. Sort everything into piles based on purpose.
How do you organize your beauty products in a way that makes sense? One simple idea that works very nicely is to simply assign a drawer to each category of products. You could assign a drawer for makeup, and another for manicure products, and another for skincare products. If you keep hair products in your dresser, you might also assign a drawer for those. Another drawer could be used for perfumes, and another for jewelry. You may also want to choose one of your top drawers for a “quick access” area. You can put the beauty supplies you use the most in that drawer so you can grab them fast when you just want to get out the door.
4. Use containers for smart organization.
One of the keys to getting organized is to make sure when you put everything back in the drawers, to do it neatly. A set of small plastic bins is perfect for containing small objects like hair clips or makeup containers. If you get clear bins or bins without lids, you can easily see what is inside of each. These will keep everything stored neatly inside your drawers so you don’t find yourself with another mess on your hands.
For many, the time spent in front of the mirror each day at the dressing table is a time to relax and clear the mind. It is a lot easier to clear your mind and get ready for the day when you can find everything you need. Get your dressing table organized, and enjoy the benefits.
