Painting is one of the most enjoyable and rewarding artistic activities in the world—but you will quickly discover when you start painting that it is also one of the messiest. There are a number of reasons you might want to reduce the clutter. For one thing, it’s easier to find your painting supplies. For another, you’ll spend more time painting and less time searching. Moreover, it can be easier to stay inspired and paint with a clear mind when you are not wading through piles of paint bottles and dirty brushes. How do you organize your painting studio so that you can more easily find all your painting supplies?

• Purchase some shelves for your supplies. Shelves with cubby holes for different types of supplies can work well, as can folding cabinets. Another idea is simply to take the drawers out of a dresser and fit plastic bins inside. You can also purchase stackable plastic bins, but be sure to put supplies you don’t use a lot on the bottom. Art carts are another choice. These carts have wheels on them and can easily be moved around the studio to different areas, carrying the supplies that you need.
