Approaching a monumental organization task can be tough at any time, but it is never harder than when you do it without motivation. That is true whether you are attempting to organize your home or organize your office. If you are on the clock, you have some incentive (your pay, of course), but at home, nobody is compensating you for all that hard work. If you do not motivate yourself before you try to get organized though, you are not going to achieve great results. So how do you get yourself in gear so you are ready to go?
• Know when your energy peaks. Each of us has a time of day when we are most effective at hard work and focus. For some people, that time is first thing in the morning. For others, it may be in the middle of the day. Still other people have a burst of energy in the evening or night time. The trick is to figure out when you do your best work. Decide to do your work then. That is one of the best home organization tips you are going to come across.
• Clean on a schedule. If you are tackling a big chore like spring cleaning, it can really help to have a set schedule. At first, sticking to your schedule may seem challenging, but as you go along, you will find it gets easier. Why? You will feel proud of what you have accomplished, and you will know that if you stick with your schedule, you will be done in a finite amount of time.
• Have everything you need. It is not easy to stay motivated when you are constantly worrying about having to run to the store. Make a list of the areas you need to organize and think ahead. Stock up on large, medium and small plastic organization containers as needed, and you will always have the supplies on hand that you need to consolidate anything and get it tidy.
• Avoid distractions, but reward yourself later. During your cleaning and organization, you are going to be tempted to step away regularly to check your phone messages or get online or watch TV. Do take breaks, but make sure they are scheduled breaks. Otherwise, focus on the task at hand. If you don’t, it will seem to take forever. Promise yourself some kind of a reward once you get the entire task done, like a nice dinner or maybe a purchase of something you want but don’t necessarily need. You can also reward yourself with a short break every time you complete a checkpoint in your organizational task list.
Organizing is a big chore; there is no doubt about it. But that doesn’t mean you cannot approach it feeling motivated, energetic, and excited about all you are going to accomplish. Get some quality organizational supplies, work when you feel most energetic, stick to a schedule, and reward yourself for your achievements. You will be amazed by how fast you can get your house tidy!
