Trying to figure out how to organize a small closet with lots of clothes? It is no easy task, and you will need some clever closet organizing ideas to do it. In Part 1, I shared the following ideas with you:

• Repurpose hangers to save space (for example, consider using a tie hanger for your tank tops).
• Use pipe cleaners to add some grip to slippery hangers. This keeps your clothes from sliding off (always a hassle in a crowded closet).
• Purchase plastic containers with dividers for drawers. Skip the cloth or cardboard; plastic is sturdier.
• Use PVC pipes to store scarves or socks.

Now I will give you some additional ideas for organizing a small closet.

• Label hangers with days of the week. This is an idea which I usually see for children’s closets to speed up their morning preparations for school, but it works just as well for your own closet if you have to rush out to work every morning and do not want to waste time planning what to wear. Just figure it out in advance when you are hanging your clothes after doing the laundry. Have a hanger labeled with each day of the week, and hang your clothes accordingly. That way on Monday morning, you can just fetch whatever you hung up on the “Monday” hanger and hurry out the door!

• Stack folded shirts horizontally in drawers. If you stack your shirts vertically inside drawers (like you see at a retail store), all that happens is they get all mixed together and unfolded as you search for the shirt you want to wear. Instead, stack them horizontally inside the drawer from front to back. This not only conserves space, but allows you to see all your shirts simultaneously. That way you can pick out the one you actually want without disturbing the rest.

• Use PVC pipes for shoe storage. PVC pipes work great in a drawer for your socks or scarves, but they actually work just as well for storing shoes. You need larger pipes for this, but what you can do is stack them up along the wall of your closet, and then put a pair of shoes in each. This gets the floor cleared up.

• Double up on hangers with soda can tabs. Desperately need to put more hangers in your closet, but totally out of space on the rod? One cool DIY hack is to place a soda can tab over each of your existing hangers. This provides a second hole through which you can hang another hanger. So each of your hangers supports a second one on a level just below the rod.

As you can see, there are a lot of smart hacks for closet organization if you are willing to think outside the box and use items like PVC pipes or soda can tabs in unexpected ways. Your closet will not get organized overnight, but if you do a little bit each day, it will gradually transform into a neat storage area which provides you with a lot more room for your stuff!
