Are you a newbie to the world of organizing? Do you dream of a beautiful, orderly house, but have no idea where to begin, or if you even have what it takes to be organized? Anyone can become organized, but it may take some adjustments to the lifestyle and habits you have accumulated over the years. You may also need to go out and buy some supplies, but they will be pretty basic. Here is what you need if you want to organize your house, your office, and your life:
• A to-do list and a schedule. You will not get far in organizing your space if you do not start by organizing your time. Know what needs to get done, write it down, prioritize your list, and come up with a schedule that will have you doing a bit each day. If you try to do it all at once, it will seem like too much, and you will keep finding reasons to avoid it. But if you just do a little at a time, you will eventually transform your space and your life. You will probably be surprised how much you can get done in just the first month. By the end of the first year you will probably not recognize your home.
• Storage and organization supplies. You do not need to get fancy, especially when you are starting out. There are many cheap organizing containers. Plastic containers for storage come in all colors and sizes, and are perfect for most applications. You can also look into baskets, wall bins, and other simple solutions. Eventually you may to consider shelving and furniture to help you stay organized, but that is later down the road. There is no reason to intimidate yourself or spend a lot of money at this juncture. Right now you are just trying to get started.
• A can-do attitude. To get your house in order, you must first get your head in order. Even if you have a history of clutter in your life, and you have never gotten into organizing before, you have to believe that change is possible. If you are committed to making changes to the way you do things, you can get organized. It can even be a transformational activity that helps you discover the best in yourself. You may discover that you love to stay organized, and that you can do more and achieve more than you thought possible.
That is really all you need to become an organized person! You need time, supplies, and the right mindset. You do not need a lot of time or a lot of supplies either. You just need to learn how to make the most out of the time you do have, and purchase some cheap, simple supplies to get started. The last part—your mindset—may be the easiest part or the most challenging, depending on your personality. Either way, it is something you can control, and if you have a positive attitude, you will be amazed what you can accomplish!
