Get plastic containers which are open in the front so that your employees can add or remove items from them effortlessly without opening them up or pulling them out. This also keeps employees from moving them around and making them hard to find. Then come up with a good system for sorting the bins on the shelves. Make it intuitive—don’t for example place black pens far away from red pens or blue pens. Put all the pens next to each other, but keep them sorted by color. Put other similar supplies like pencils and erasers nearby—not way on the other side of unrelated supplies like paperclips and staples. Paperclips and staples should be close to each other, and staplers should also be located in the same area of the shelf.
