If you are planning your New Year’s resolutions for 2019, you might want to add some home organization goals to the list. Why? Because getting organized may actually help you to achieve everything on your list. In 8 Ways Organizing Can Help You Renew Yourself in 2019, Part 1, I talked about 4 ways in which getting organized can help you renew yourself this year:

1. Discover your own bad habits and shortcuts.
2. Increase mindfulness.
3. Develop more awareness of your surroundings.
4. Streamline your efficiency to get more accomplished.

I would now like to share 4 more with you!

5. Become more centered and focused.

Our environments deeply affect how we think and feel. That means that if you are living in a pigsty, your mind may feel like a pigsty too. But if you are in a clean, well-organized space, your mind too may feel neat and tidy, allowing you to feel more centered and focused.

This is obviously very important in your home office since it can help you get your work done more effectively. But it also has intrinsic value all of the time in every room of your home. De-clutter your environment and you will de-clutter your thoughts, reducing anxiety and instilling a sense of clarity and tranquillity.

6. Prove to yourself you can accomplish your goals.

When you actually successfully put your home organizing ideas into play, you may be amazed at what you can achieve. A lot of people really struggle with following through on their home organizing projects, so if you complete a few, you will probably feel very proud of yourself. This may give you the motivation and encouragement you need to achieve some of your other goals for 2019.

7. Discover your personal organizing style.

Another of the joys of home organizing is realizing that there is no one “correct” way to get organized. In fact, the very best way to organize your home is the way that suits your unique personality and needs.

What is great about figuring that out is that it helps you see that this is true not just with organizing, but with all areas of your life. When you feel inspired to find your own individual path, you can accomplish so much personally and professionally than you ever could following someone else’s.

8. Create a home or work environment which supports your goals.

In Part 1, I talked about learning to appreciate your home environment more through organizing and decluttering. But what if you do not feel at “home” in your own house? Then it is time to use your organizing efforts to make your space feel more tailored to your needs. Consider redecorating as you organize. This is a chance to transform your space so that it supports you completely. Once you do, that can be a source of joy, inspiration and comfort every day.

Now you have a lot of great reasons to get organized in 2019. Once you do, you should find that it is easier to achieve the other goals you have on your New Year’s resolutions list!
