Working on your New Year’s resolutions list for 2019? Recently I have already shared a few New Year’s resolutions for organizing, so I am not going to be focusing on that in this article.

What I do want to focus on is how getting organized can actually help you to meet all your New Year’s resolutions by helping you find a sense of personal renewal.

Let’s look at 8 different ways organizing can help you refresh your perspective and approach life in a new way in 2019.

1. Discover your own bad habits and shortcuts.

When you are decluttering and organizing your home, you will probably notice a lot about the way you have been doing things to date. You may notice certain patterns in your behaviour, certain shortcuts you try to take in your life when you could be taking a better, more disciplined approach.

This is the perfect opportunity to take notes on those bad habits and think about what you want to change, and how doing so could improve your life.

2. Increase mindfulness.

One thing you will probably notice while cleaning and organizing for the new year is that you may have a tendency to just stash things away without really thinking about it. This is a good reminder to be more mindful in your life.

If going forward you do so, you are far less likely to accumulate clutter. But you will also enjoy the broader benefits of a more mindful existence. You may find it easier to be in the now, and may be less carried away by nervous preoccupations. You also may learn to place more value on everyday, ordinary activities and objects around your home.

3. Develop more awareness of your surroundings.

This is tied to mindfulness. How often do you rush frantically about the house without really taking the time to appreciate your home environment? Think more about where you are, and not just what you are doing. If you have a beautiful home, you should take the time to enjoy it. If you do not, this may be a wake-up call to do something to make your space more accommodating.

4. Streamline your household to get more accomplished.

If you do a good job decluttering and organizing your home (not to mention your workplace), it will take less time and energy in the future to get things done. That can actually result in a lot more free time and energy every day. Just imagine what you could use that time and energy for—maybe tackling some other items on your New Year’s resolutions list.

You now know just a few of the ways in which organizing your home can give you a sense of renewal, helping you achieve your goals for the new year. Read on to 8 Ways Organizing Can Help You Renew Yourself in 2019, Part 2 to find out even more ways in which organizing can help you find a clean slate!
