Are you an artisan who travels to and from farmer’s markets and craft shows on a regular basis? If so, you probably have struggled to come up with a fast, easy, and secure transport solution for your merchandise. As it turns out, plastic storage containers with lids make an excellent choice. And with some simple customization, they are perfect for transporting jewelry.

In fact, plastic storage totes arguably work even better than commercial jewelry transport cases. Why? They are much easier to load and unload, especially if you cleverly integrate pegs for your merchandise pegboards.

Here is how you can do this:

1. Start by purchasing a large plastic storage tote. It does not matter if it is clear or opaque. Go with whatever suits you. The exact size and dimensions of the tote are not all that important either. A larger box is better however if you have necklaces.

2. Measure your pegboard pegs and use those measurements to drill holes around the perimeter of your plastic storage bin. Fit in as many as you can on every side of your bin.

3. Next, attach the pegs through the holes so that they are inside the bin.

4. Hang your jewelry on the pegs the exact way that you would if the pegs were in your pegboard. You will be amazed how much you can fit inside your box.

5. Pack anything in the middle of the container that you want—though preferably not more jewelry (you don’t want everything getting tangled together). The more you can add, the better—this will prevent your jewelry from jostling around and falling off the pegs while you are moving the plastic storage bin for jewelry from your home to the craft show and back.

You should be all set at this point. What is awesome about this system is that it makes setup a breeze when you get to your table at the fair. You set your pegboard up first, and then you open the plastic container. Reach inside and pull out the pegs, already loaded with jewelry, and attach them as they are to your pegboard. As fast and easy as that, your merchandise will be on display.

The other reason this system works well is that you can re-use it again and again. If you have unsold stock at the end of the fair, you pack it up by attaching your pegs to the inside of your container again just as they are. Drive home, store the box, and wait for the next fair. Take the container with you and then pull out your jewelry and put it out on display again.

You can see how this system will end up saving you all sorts of time and effort. It really is amazing how many highly specific uses there are for plastic storage containers. It doesn’t take long to drill holes in a tote, and once you have this solution ready, it will make your life a whole lot easier!
