Clear plastic storage containers are incredibly useful around the house, but they are also notoriously hard to get clean after they get stained. This can be particularly problematic with plastic food storage containers. Even so, you may not want to resort to harsh chemicals to get rid of stains. If so, you may be wondering how to clean plastic containers naturally. There are many different approaches that you can take which can provide you with excellent results.

If you haven’t already, start out by reading Natural Ways to Remove Stains from Plastic Bins. This will teach you how to clean stained plastic containers using rubbing alcohol, and sanitizer, or lemon juice. Once you are familiar with those techniques, read on to find out even more possibilities.

1. White vinegar
One of the most powerful stain removers in your kitchen cabinet is white vinegar. Vinegar has antimicrobial properties, and can remove bacteria and viruses from your plastic containers. It is completely safe for consumption, and even has digestive benefits. This makes it one of the very best cleaning agents that you can use for your plastic food containers.

To use white vinegar to remove stains from your plastic, either use it fully concentrated or dilute it in water as you see fit. You do not need a very high concentration to get the job done, so if you have a lot of plastic containers to wash, you may find that the best approach is simply to dilute a little vinegar in a sink full of water and soak them all at once.

While not as popular, you can also try apple cider vinegar (ACV). Even though it has a yellowish tint, it seems to do a very good job restoring proper coloration to a wide variety of surfaces including plastic. This is probably because like white vinegar, it is antimicrobial and highly acidic.

2. Baking Soda
Another very popular natural approach to cleaning plastic bins is baking soda. This is actually such a popular method that I will be writing a separate article on it. To sum up, all you need to do is make a paste by combining the baking soda with water. You can then use it to scrub your stained container. This is an incredibly powerful technique which yields excellent results.

3. Salt
Believe it or not, salt can also be very effective for removing stains from plastic. For this technique, run a dishcloth under warm water, and sprinkle on a little bit of salt. Use the dishcloth to scrub the bin until the stain is fully removed.

Now you know a whole bunch of different methods you can use to remove stubborn stains from your plastic food storage containers and other plastic totes. You probably do not even need to go to the store to purchase any cleaning agents; chances are good you already have a number of these in your home. All of these methods get you away from harsh chemicals, and each can have excellent results.
