When you are looking through the clutter in your dresser drawer and trying to figure out how to organize your beauty supplies, you’ll have to think about organizing hair stuff. This includes all those bottles of hairspray and hair gel, your styling tools, your hair bows, clips, ties, and more. All those things can quickly get mixed together and turn into a real mess. And nothing is more annoying when you are trying to get ready for a night out than searching everywhere for that perfect hairclip to match your dress and not finding it.

Here are some ideas for organizing hair products:

• Caboodles. Yes, those old caboodles you might still have stashed away from childhood somewhere—they make great storage containers for your collection of hair stuff today! You might feel embarrassed about it, but you would be surprised just how many adult women still store their hair stuff and makeup this way.

• Trying to figure out how to organize headbands? One great idea is to recycle an old cylindrical storage canister. This is perfect for both hard and soft headbands. For smaller items, like ponytail holders, a cylinder for stackable clear containers may do the trick. Alternately, a toilet paper roll or paper towel roll can work too, but an organizer is sturdier and will hold up to more use.

• Use divided plastic storage boxes or a number of small plastic containers in a drawer to store your barrettes and clips and other small hair supplies. If you wear bandannas and can’t stand them constantly unfolding and hiding the rest of your stuff, folding them up and placing them in a container with a lid can be very helpful. Divide your supplies according to type, as this tends to be the least messy solution, and keeps everything easy to find. You could alternately organize by color if you think that would be more helpful for you when it comes to planning outfits.

• You can also try using a craft box organizer. Craft boxes after all are ideally suited for this purpose, because they tend to come with a bunch of small compartments ready for use. You can even buy handy upright storage boxes that take up vertical space, freeing up space in your drawers and on top of your dresser. Tilt-out bins are extra helpful because they make it a breeze to grab whatever you need. This is a perfect solution in particular for barrettes, clips, or ponytail holders which you might own by the dozens.

While a lot of women give up the vast majority of their hair accessories as they get older (you might have dozens of clips now; you probably had hundreds when you were a child), odds are you still own enough to make a mess of your dresser top or drawer. These organizing ideas for hair accessories can help you to reclaim that cluttered space, and make it much faster and easier to find that perfect barrette for your outfit each day!
