3. Tackle the worst problem areas.
If you want to feel less overwhelmed, start by organizing the areas which concern you the most. If the mess on your desk is burdening you, then find a way to organize your desk first. If it’s your kitchen that you need in order to think straight, then focus on that first. Do one thing at a time.

4. Purchase some quality organizational supplies.
Once you take stock of your organizational situation, you can figure out what you need to get organized. Shelves, filing cabinets, folding cabinets for your garage, and small, medium, and large plastic bins are excellent for organizing, and on the whole they are quite cheap. They can make a tremendous difference in your day to day life. They simplify the task of organization and they keep things in their proper place.

5. Once you have tackled the worst problems, proceed to the rest of the house.
Again, continue to take on one task at a time. You will find that the plastic bins you purchased for your first project will usually be useful with the rest as well. They are very flexible and can be adapted to many different environments and situations.

You may feel overwhelmed going into home organization, but once you get started, you will find things becoming easier. The more clearing away and organizing you do, the clearer your mind will be and the more approachable the rest of your home organization task will be. Once your home is organized with bins, you will have a lot less work to do in order to keep up with it. You’ll never have to go back to square one again, which is a very encouraging thought.
