Get the Clutter Under the Christmas Tree Under Control

Hoping for a no clutter Christmas this year? It can be done, but it does take a little advance planning and some creativity to make it happen. You may already have some solutions set up for keeping your Christmas ornaments and decorations organized, but what about the space around your tree?

You’ve set up your Christmas tree and strung up the lights. It’s looking beautiful, and there is plenty of space underneath for your gifts. But what do you do with all of the “extras” that go along with it? You know what I am talking about—all those spare bulbs, hanging hooks, zip ties, assembly instructions, light testers, and so on. Organizing Christmas decorations is one thing—but getting this mess under control is quite another.

It is hard to know what to do with all of these items. You do not want to put them back in the basement or attic or hall closet, because you might need them during the holidays. But you also do not want to leave them just lying around on the floor behind your tree somewhere. If you do that, no matter how artfully you attempt to hide them, they will still be there in plain sight, cluttering up your presentation. Worse, when you place all the presents under the tree, you may find it impossible to reach a spare bulb when you need it.

Thankfully, there is one simple organizing hack which you can use to get rid of Christmas clutter. All you need to do is create a clever hidden storage box!

It is quite simple:

1. Get a plastic storage box with lid.
2. Cover both the bin and the lid with wrapping paper.
3. Put all your tree maintenance stuff inside the box.
4. Close it up and put it under the tree.

This idea is genius because the box will blend in with all the rest under your tree. It will look like just another gift, which will completely eliminate the impression of clutter underneath the tree.

At the same time, it keeps all of your tree supplies accessible. You do not need to dig around behind your tree if one of your lights burns out. You simply keep the box right out front of the tree where it is easy to reach, open it up, grab what you need, and close it again.

This is also a great hack because you can use it again next year and the year after and so on—you do not even need to wrap the box again. Choose wrapping paper you really like, because you will be seeing it again next year (of course you can rewrap the bin again if the paper starts to look dated, but why give yourself extra work?). Be sure to pick wrapping paper and a bow which are distinctive enough for you to spot the box right away when it is under the tree. Ideally, you want it to blend in, but not disappear. You need to be able to tell it apart from the real gifts!

I hope you enjoyed this holiday organizing hack. Enjoy a clutter-free Christmas!
