When it comes to storing children’s toys, it can be a challenge to find a solution which is affordable and aesthetically pleasing. Plastic bin toy storage is perfect for compartmentalizing different types of toys and teaching children basic organizational skills. But plastic toy organizer bins seldom are designed to fit well with home décor.

So what if you want a plastic bin toy organizer which you can put in your living room? Not every household has a playroom, and if your children spend a lot of time in the living room (or simply have cramped bedrooms), you are bound to have some overflow in the main living areas of your home. Naturally you are going to want the toy storage totes to blend in well with the rest of your furnishings and decorations.

So how can you customize plastic tub toy storage to match your décor? Here is a fast, fun and easy craft project!

Materials:
• Plastic storage box with lid
• 1-2 yards of fabric to match your décor
• 1 yard of burlap
• 1-2 spools of trim
• 4 furniture feet (the screws should be included)
• 4 nuts and washers
• Drill and drill bit
• Glue gun
• Glue
• Spray adhesive

Directions:
1. Paint the furniture feet if you want to customize their color.

2. Drill holes in the four corners of the plastic bin. They should match the size of the screws on the feet.

3. Measure your bin and cut a piece of fabric to fit. Apply the spray adhesive to one small section of the bin at a time, pressing down the fabric and smoothing it out section by section. At the corners you will end up needing to fold a bit of the fabric.

4. Measure and cut a piece of burlap to cover the lid. Adhere it the same way you did the fabric to the bin. Don’t forget to cover the sides of your lid. You do not want any plastic showing.

5. Optionally, you can add some burlap trim to your bin as well. You may want to follow up with a trim piece or cord for extra style (hot glue works well for this).

6. Finally, attach the feet to the bin. Push the screws through the holes and secure the feet using the washers and nuts.
And that’s it! The hardest thing about this project is just making sure you have achieved full, smooth coverage with the fabric. Beyond that, attaching the legs is fairly simple. As far as decorating goes, the sky is the limit. While I have presented a basic idea here with only a few embellishments, there is so much you can do to personalize this look. Your completed toy bins will fit in nicely even in the main living areas of your house and will look like they belong there. Older children may have fun helping you out with this project too, so this is something to do on a rainy afternoon.
