If you are looking for a way to free up space in a bedroom, you may be thinking about under-the-bed storage. You may be debating whether to replace your current bed with a storage bed frame, or invest in under-bed storage bins instead. While there are pros and cons to both choices, I would argue that under-bed storage containers are the more versatile option. Let’s take a look at some of the advantages over under-bed storage.

• Storage bed frames are expensive. It costs a lot to replace a bed. By contrast, purchasing plastic under-bed storage containers is not pricey at all. You can save a lot of time and money and hassle going the container route.

• It can be hard to move a storage bed in or out of a room as needed. Additionally, storage beds may sometimes develop problems. They have moving parts like knobs and hinges and track rollers. If these parts end up getting damaged in moving (or just through ordinary use), then the compartments won’t work until you fix them. Storage bins for under bed on the other hand will never get damaged through simple regular use! And if you need to move them, it is as simple as pulling them out and carrying them where you need them.

• Plastic containers for storing items under the bed are versatile. You can buy boxes in whatever dimensions you need. Some beds can also be raised or lowered. If you choose to raise or lower your bed, you can add or subtract storage bins as needed, or switch to another size.

Plastic storage bins are great for kids. Children like to store their stuff under the bed, and it is certainly better than having it strewn around haphazardly. This is a great way to get your kids to stay organized. And when your children grow up and go off to college, they can bring their storage containers with them for use under their dorm beds. They certainly could not do that with a storage bed frame!

• If you need to repurpose plastic bins for storage later, you can. If you no longer need the under-bed storage, you can simply use the bins in some other part of the house. They work great in the attic or the basement or out in your garden shed or storage unit. That obviously is not something you can do if you have a storage bed frame. If you no longer need that, reselling it or thrifting it is a real pain.

Storage bed frames can be very nice, and they certainly can help you to make an efficient use of space. But you can accomplish the exact same thing with plastic containers. Plastic bins are definitely cheaper and more versatile and convenient than storage bed frames, and it is much easier to switch to using them than it is to install a brand new bed. For all of these reasons, they are the superior option for most people in most situations!
